CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team rolled off its third straight victory after downing George Washington 4-3, here on a rainy Saturday night, under the lights, Oct. 6, at a muddy CCU Soccer Field. Senior Kheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson)) netted two goals, including the game-winner, while junior Djamel Bekka (Tulsa, Okla./Union) also added two goals.
The Chanticleers (4-5-1) outscored GWU (5-4) 2-0 in the second half for the victory. CCU outshot the Colonials 16-15.
An Erick Perez-Segnini goal in the 25th minute snapped CCU's streak of 204:01 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. The Colonials did not hold the lead for long as Dube scored on a give-and-go from senior Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla./St. John's County (Queen's University of Charlotte)) just 23 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. In the 34th minute, Bekka dribbled past GWU defenders and found the back of the net to give CCU a 2-1 advantage. GWU took a 3-2 advantage heading into the half after a Kyle Albrecht goal at 34:20 and an Andrew Kroculick score with 39 seconds remaining in the half.
Bekka connected on a free kick after a GWU yellow card to even the game at 3-3 in the 64th minute and Dube drained the game-winner also off a free kick in the 73rd minute.
Redshirt freshman Phillip Latham (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) recorded five saves, while Greg Yahr made one save for GWU.
The Chants look to remain unbeaten in Big South Conference action when they host Liberty, Friday, Oct. 12. Game time is set for 4 p.m., at the CCU Soccer Field.
