No. 23 Coastal Travels to College of Charleston Wednesday

CONWAY - The nationally ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will travel to Charleston on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to face the College of Charleston Cougars (5-3-1) at Patriots Point beginning at 7:00 pm.

The Chanticleers (7-2) are currently ranked No. 23 by College Soccer News, No. 24 by SoccerAmerica.com in addition to being ranked fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Atlantic Region. The Chants are also receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll.

Coastal is currently ranked second in the NCAA in scoring offense, averaging 2.78 goals per game and third in total goals (25). Junior striker Ashton Bennett ranks fourth in goals per game (1.0) and points per game (2.2) while his nine goals rank fifth in Division I.

Coastal has won seven of their last eight matches including wins over the then 16th-ranked Virginia Commonwealth and the 21st-ranked Ohio State on back-to-back Sundays. Coastal topped both Liberty and Gardner-Webb, 3-1 to open the Big South slate 2-0 for the first time since 2008.

Wednesday's match-up marks the 25th meeting between the two schools with the Chanticleers leading the overall series 12-8-4, despite being outscored 50-43. Coastal has dropped the previous two meeting against the Cougars and have not won in Charleston since 2006.
