CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's soccer forward Ashton Bennett was named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Attacking Player of the Week for games Sept. 26 - Oct. 2, the league announced today. This marks the second time this season that Bennett has earned this award.
Bennett, a junior from Claredon, Jamaica, recorded a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over Liberty on Oct. 2. The forward scored the equalizer in the 64th minute on a shot from 15 yards out. He added the eventual game winner in the 78th minute on a header from free kick from Justin Portillo. Bennett completed the hat trick in the waning seconds of the 90th minute on a shot from the top of the box to preserve the win.
This marked Bennett's second hat-trick and third multi-goal game of the season, while earning him a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for the second time this year. He was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
The 23rd-ranked Chanticleers return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Charleston to face the College of Charleston Cougars at Patriots Point with kick-off slated for 7:00 pm.
