Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team improved to 6-5-2 on the season on Tuesday, Oct. 3. defeating College of Charleston (7-5-1) with a score of 3-2.
At the 10:38 minute mark in the first half junior Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) netted his third goal of the season putting the Chanticleers on top 1-0. Just seconds later, at the 10:59 mark the Cougars brought the score to even at 1-1 when Zach Prince put the ball past Chanticleer goaltender junior Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) who finished the game with two saves.
The second of Van Den Berg's three goals came in the 29th minute of the game bringing his goal total on the season to four. To end the first half, the Cougars tied the game at 2-2 when Scott Milroth collected a goal in the last minute of the half.
The Chants were outshot by the Cougars 12-4 while the Cougars also took five more corner kicks than Coastal in the contest 7-2.
Netting the winning goal for the Chants was again off the foot of Van Den Berg and came in the 65th minute of the game. Collecting the assist on the game-winner was junior Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula/Lindsey Wilson). Finishing in the game in goal for the Chants was Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) who held the Cougars scoreless in the second half.
The Chants will continue their four-game stint on the road on Saturday, Oct. 7 when they head to Radford to take on the Highlanders at 7 p.m.
