In a physical game on both sides of the ball, Coastal managed five shots in the first period and only three in the second. The Spartans, while trying for only three shots in the first half of play, recorded seven tries in the last 45 minutes of action.
The lone goal of the match, netted at the 42-minute mark, was a give-and-go from Chisoni to Joseph Ngwenya and back to Chisoni, who sent the ball into the net past UNCG keeper Jay Benfield.
Coastal keeper Andy Paxton captured the win and the shutout, grabbing five saves, while Joe Crump and Benfield split time in the net for the Spartans. Crump recorded one save before leaving the match just before the Chants goal, and Benfield grabbed a save during the duration of the match.
The loss drops the Spartans to 0-1 on the season, and the Chants now stand at 1-0. Coastals next match is a home date with Davidson at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, at the CCU Soccer Field.
