RICHMOND,Va. -- Hartwick's Neil McLean helped spark a late Hawks' comeback with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation, as Hartwick tied Coastal Carolina, 3-3, in the opening match of the 2002 VCU NIKE/ALLTEL Classic in Richmond.
Hartwick (0-0-1) got on the board first at the 4:30 mark of the match when forward Greg Victor scored off a feed from midfielder Kevin Saunders.
Coastal Carolina (0-0-1) would score the next three goals in the first half, to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room. Junior forward Joseph Ngwenya (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Provincial H.S.) scored the first goal at the 9:16 mark. Sophomore Mike Littlefield (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park H.S.) scored the second at the 20:59 mark of the match, while freshman John DeVae (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.) scored the third, a little over six minutes later.
CCU will next face #23-ranked Syracuse at 1 p.m. on Sunday, in the final day of the VCU NIKE/ALLTELL Classic in Richmond, Va.
