WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team (5-5-2, 0-2) fell to the No. 8 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (9-2) on Friday, Sept. 29 at Spry Standium.
The Demon Deacons took the lead 1-0 when Sam Cronin took a pass from Justin Lichtfuss and beat Coastal goalkeeper Benjamin Compton (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) to the right. Compton earned his first start of the season and collected two saves on the evening. Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) was between the posts during the second half and collected five saves.
The score remained at 1-0 for most of the game, with the Chants being out-shot by the Demon Deacons 16-11. In the 76th minute the Deacs went up 2-0 when Wake Forests Mark Ellington took a breakaway pass and put it past Weant from five yards out.
Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson)collected two shots on goal and Luke Ibbetson (York, England/ Millthrope) recorded one. Ibbetson currently ranks second on the Big South list with eight goals this season.
The Chants continue their season on the road when they head to the College of Charleston on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
