CONWAY, S.C. Senior Joseph Ngwenya was named College Soccer News National Player of the Week, Monday, and also made his second consecutive appearance on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
The forward from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe earned tournament MVP honors for the second straight weekend, this time at the Clemson/Nike Men's Soccer Invitational. Friday against Furman, Ngwenya netted the game-winner in the Chants' 2-0 victory over the Palladins. He then recorded both of Coastal's goals in its 2-1 overtime victory over Clemson, marking the Chants' first-ever win against the Tigers, who ended Coastal's season in 2002 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Ngwenya leads the squad in scoring with eight goals, including five game-winners, and four assists for 20 points.
Coastal men's soccer opens its Big South schedule this week, traveling to take on UNC Asheville, Wednesday, October 1, at 4 p.m.
