CONWAY - Coastal Carolina’s Ricky Garbanzo has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for the week ending Sept. 23, the publication announced on Monday.
Garbanzo scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Chanticleers downed rival Liberty on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The match marked the first career multi-goal output for the sophomore at any level of play. Garbanzo found the net off a header in the seventh minute and followed with a left-footed blast in the 23rd minute. The forward provided an assist on Matt Risher’s goal in the opening stages of the second half.
Garbanzo also fired three shots, including one on goal, on Saturday, Sept. 22 as Coastal defeated UNC Greensboro 2-1 at home.
The Rock Hill, S.C., native co-leads the Coastal attack with four goals on only 19 shot attempts. In addition, he has notched three assists to tally 11 points on the season.
Garbanzo and the Chanticleers return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. as hosts to Lowcountry rival College of Charleston. The Chanticleers, who lead the all-time series 13-8-4, claimed a thrilling 3-2 road victory over the Cougars last season.
