Men's Soccer Falls to UNC Greensboro 4-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team (4-4-2) collected the fourth loss of the season after a 4-0 loss to UNC Greensboro on Friday, Sept. 22.

In front of a crowd of 1,671, the Spartans scored two early goals. The first coming in the 11th minute of the game when senior Scott Jones got the ball past Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) in the left corner of the goal putting the Spartans on top 1-0.

Soon after in the 16th minute, a Coastal foul in the penalty box turned into a UNCG goal when Henning Jonasson put the penalty kick in the net to make the lead 2-0. Near the end of the first half, senior Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthrope) and junior Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson) had great scoring opportunities, but both nearly missed the target to head in to halftime scoreless.

The Chanticleers came out aggressively searching for a goal early in the second half, taking three shots in the first five minutes of the half. The shots in the game were close with UNCG taking 14 and the Chants with 12.

A busy night for Weant, collecting five saves on the night, he had a picture perfect save in the 63rd minute when his 6’ 5" frame dove the across the goal to stop a shot by UNCG’s Jonasson.

Jokull Elisabetarson a Spartan from Iceland, connected from eight yards to make the score 3-0, at the 66:09 mark. Thirteen minutes later in the 79th minute, Spartan sophomore Thomas Campbell closed out the scoring knocking the ball into the left corner of the goal from 10 yards out putting the Spartans ahead 4-0 where the score will remain for the duration.

The team will return home to take on Big South opponent UNC Asheville at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the CCU Soccer Field.
