Men’s Soccer is Downed by Liberty 2-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team (4-3-2, 0-1 Big South) fell to the Liberty Flames with a score of 2-1 and collecting their first conference loss on the season.   In the early minutes of the game Liberty (3-2-0, 2-1 Big South) got off three shots, forcing goalkeeper Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) to make three saves in the first 10 minutes of play. Liberty’s Darryl Lewis took the lead 1-0 in the 19th minute of the game and extended the lead to 2-0 by the end of the first half.   Early in the second half senior Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthrope) collected his seventh goal on the year when he split two defenders for the score cutting the lead to 2-1.   The Chanticleers were out shot 17-12 by the Flames, as well as had two corner kicks to Liberty’s four.   Wolfgang recorded three saves and split time with junior Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) who had two saves in the second half.   With the loss, the Chants drops its first conference match of the season and falls to 4-3-2 overall. The victory for Liberty was the Flames first against that Chants since 2001.  The Chanticleers will continue their week on the road when they head to Greensboro, N.C. to take on UNC Greensboro at 7 p.m. and will make their television debut when the game is aired on Fox Sports Soccer.
