Khumalo Leads Men’s Soccer to 3-1 Victory Over Harvard

More Information:

he 16th-ranked Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team (3-0) got two first half goals from Boyzzz Khumalo (Soweto, South Africa-Bethlehem (Lindsey Wilson)) to beat the upset-minded Harvard Crimson 3-1 in action on Friday afternoon in the Furman/Diadora Invitational.

For the first time all season the Chanticleers were facing a deficit when Harvard’s Anthony Tornaritis beat CCU goalkeeper Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) on a shot from eight yards out at the 10:54 mark of the first half. It was the first goal that the Weant and Coastal have given up all season long.

The Chants would quickly answer as Khumalo would beat the Harvard keeper from 16 yards out, off the feed from Jordie Hughes (Victoria, British Columbia-Spectrum) to tie the game at one at 16:20 of the first half. For Khumalo, it was his third goal of the season and the fourth assist register by Hughes.

The duo would untie the game a short time later when Khumalo again took the feed from Hughes from 12 yards out and beat the keeper to make the score 2-1 Coastal at the 28:02 mark of the first half.

The game would stay 2-1 until the second half (56:45) when Mubarike Chisoni (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe-Chegutu (Lindsey Wilson)) would tally his fifth goal of the season from Khumalo and Hughes, when he beat a charging keeper to the left side for the final goal of the game.

Coastal won despite being outshot by Harvard 16 -7 and trailing in corner kicks 4-1.

Weant play well, after allowing the early goal, by registering six saves on the afternoon.

Coastal Carolina University will continue its play in the Furman/Diadora Invitational with a match against Louisville at 11 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 12.
