Men's Soccer Falls to #24 Ohio State, 3-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Despite outshooting the #24 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, Coastal Carolina men's soccer team was defeated 3-1 on the first day of the /Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational on Friday, September 9 in Greenville, S.C.

The game was scoreless for most of the first half until OSU sophomore Xavier Balc scored the first of his three goals beating the Chanticleers sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Nowak (Katy, Texas/Katy (UNC Greensboro) on a 16-yard shot (28:25).

Balc would score the second of his goals just :32 second later on a 13-yard shot off a cross from the right side from senior Kevin Nugent.

The score would remain 2-0 until shortly after the half when Balc completed the hat trick against new Coastal keeper sophomore Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) taking pass from the left from junior Antonio Garcia and Nugent (53:08).

CCU would get on the scoreboard (83:09) as sophomore Lachlan Cahill (Kiama, Australia/Kiama) took the feed from fellow sophomore Dominic Rossi (Kellyville, Australia/Oakhill College (Macquarie) for the Chants only tally of the afternoon.

For the game Coastal outshot OSU 9-7. The Chants also led the corner kicks 7-3.

Senior Jordie Hughes (Victoria, B.C./Spectrum) led both teams with four shots.

This was the first time Coastal had ever lost to the Big Ten Conference in men's soccer. In 1990, CCU defeated Wisoonsin 1-0.

Coastal Carolina men's soccer team continues its play in the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational on Sunday, September 11 at 11:30 a.m. against Mercer.
