Men's Soccer Ties Jacksonville 1-1 at Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s soccer team battled Jacksonville University to an even 1-1 tie after two overtimes in the opening day of action at the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational at the Stone Soccer Stadium, Sept. 7. The Chants move to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Dolphins move to 1-1-1.

Freshman Kelly Porter (Wichita, Kan./Trinity Academy) posted the Chanticleers lone goal off an assist from junior Djamel Bekka (Tulsa, Okla./Union). Porter netted the first goal of the contest on shot from 16-yards out in the ninth minute. The Dolphins responded in the 28th minute off a Ramak Niakan Safi goal from seven yards in the box. The Dolphins outshot the Chants 5-0 combined in both 10-minute overtime frames.

Jacksonville outshot CCU 12-9. Senior Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) recorded two saves between the posts for Coastal, while Matt Gilman recorded one save for JU.

The Chants will face Presbyterian College in the final day of competition at the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational at the Stone Soccer Stadium Sunday, Sept. 9. Gametime is set for 11:30 a.m.
