CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team, ranked No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, will play its third consecutive top-20 ranked team of the season on Friday when No. 15 Charlotte comes to Conway. The Chanticleers and 49ers are slated for 7 p.m. kickoff at the CCU Soccer Field.

Coastal opened its 2013 campaign last week at the Carolina Nike Classic, defeating then 17th-ranked Wake Forest 1-0 before falling to then fourth-ranked North Carolina 4-0. Senior Matt Risher scored the Chants' game-winner against the Demon Deacons off an assist from junior Ridge Robinson during the 43rd minute of play. Coastal battled the Tar Heels scoreless through the opening 65 minutes of play before surrendering a quartet of goals late in the contest.

No. 10 Coastal Outlasted by No. 3 Charlotte in Heavyweight Bout
After having a man sent off with a red card in the 24th minute, the No. 10 Coastal Carolina men's soccer team held strong for 78 minutes of play but No. 3 UNC Charlotte would find the game-winner in the 102nd minute to win the very physical top-10 clash 1-0.

Charlotte, then ranked 21st by the NSCAA, opened its season with a 2-0 victory at Denver on Aug. 30 with junior Giuseppe Gentile finding the back of the net both times. However, the 49ers lost their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 3 by a 1-0 final to unranked UNC Greensboro.

The Chanticleers and 49ers have met on the pitch in each of the past two seasons and eight times overall. Coastal owns a 4-3-1 lead in the all-time series; however, Charlotte has won each of the past two meetings -- 2-1 to open the 2011 campaign and 1-0 in a double overtime thriller in the second game of the 2012 season.

Coastal holds a distinct advantage at the CCU Soccer Field and in home openers. The Chants own a 70-19-6 (.768) record within the friendly confines of the CCU Soccer field and have not been defeated at home since Sept. 16, 2011 -- a stretch of 19 consecutive matches. The men of Conway are 24-7-2 all-time in home openers, last falling to the then 23rd-ranked 49ers to start the 2011 season.
