Fifteenth-ranked Coastal Carolina mens soccer team (2-0) exploded for two goals in a span of three minutes in the second half to down Furman 2-0 at Stone Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.
It was a close hard fought scoreless match between Furman and Coastal, with the two team trading possessions for the entire first half. It was shortly after the second half started, at the 54:09 mark, when Furmans Jordan Mann received his second yellow card and was sent off the pitch. This turned momentum in the Chanticleers favor.
The Chants would capitalize on their man advantage at the 68:22 mark when Boyzz Khumalo (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe-Chegutu (Lindsey Wilson)) took a Mubarike Chisoni (Soweto, South Africa-Bethlem (Lindsey Wilson)) pass and beat the Furman goalkeeper to give Coastal a 1-0 lead. It was Khumalo first goal of the season and the second assist register for Chisoni on the year.
Less than three minutes later the CCU offense would strike again at the 71:11 when Chisoni would tally his fourth goal of the season on a shot from 18 yards out to the left corner off the feed from Joseph Kabwe (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (Lindsey Wilson)) for the final margin of victory.
Coastal held the edge by outshooting Furman 13-6 and a held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./ Green Hope) would record his first solo shutout, and the teams second overall shutout in as many games, by recording four saves.
Coastal Carolina University will be in action next on Friday, September 10th when they take on Harvard in the Clemson/Nike Invitational at 4:30 p.m.
