CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University men's soccer team closed out the final day of the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational on Sunday Sept. 3 with a shutout win over the Richmond Spiders.

"I am very pleased with our defensive effort today," head coach Shaun Docking said. "I was proud of the way Jeremy Wolfgang played at goalkeeper. I also thought that our back four, Robert Holstein, Patrick Robertson, Kyle Russell and Wesley Kent did a great job for us today. We still have a lot to work on and we need to be more fit and have better discipline. This was a great weekend, we played two very good teams and I am very pleased with the way we defended."

In the sixth minute of the game senior Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthorpe) took the ball from junior Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla/St. John’s County (Queen’s University of Charlotte) and Craig Reed (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) to get it past Spider goalkeeper Scott Sciocchetti for the only score of the game.

The Chanticleer defense had a successful weekend holding both Bowling Green and Richmond scoreless. At goalkeeper Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) had three saves against the Spiders.

In the earlier game, the Furman defeated the Bowling Green Falcons with a score of 2-1.

The Chants (3-1) will be back in action Friday Sept. 8 in Greenville, N.C. at the Furman/Diadora Invitational where they will take on Stetson at 4:30 p.m.
