CONWAY, S.C.-Sophomore Dominic Rossi (Kellyville, Australia/Oakhill College (Macquarie) led the team with a five shots, including a potential game-tying header opportunity, but Coastal Carolina mens soccer team dropped its first game of the season to Binghamton, 1-0 on the second and final day of the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational.
The game was scoreless in the first half as the CCU goalkeeper Ryan Nowak (Katy, Texas/Katy(UNC Greensboro)) and the Binghamton keeper Ryan Bertoni kept both offenses in check.
Binghamton outshot the Chants 5-3 at the intermission and held a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.
In the second half both teams had their chances but it was Binghamton that took advantage of its opportunity.
Junior Ibrahim Yusif took a cross in front of the left corner of the net and beat CCU goalkeeper Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) (70:17) to the left bottom corner off the feed from junior Ryan Pierce for the only tally of the evening.
Coastal would have a great chance five minutes later when a shot by Rossi from 15 yards out hit the post and was rebounded by senior Peter Louis (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highlands) whose return shot went just high and over the net.
Rossi would get another chance at 81:48 as his headed ball was saved by the keeper in front of the right corner of the net.
For the game CCU outshot the Bearcats 11-10 while Binghamton held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
In the first game of the afternoon Northeastern and Furman played to a scoreless double overtime tie.
After the game the All-Tournament team was named it included four players from the tournament champs Binghamton (Adam Chavez, Kyle Antos, Barry Neville, Ibrahim Yusif), three from second place Coastal (Joseph Kabwe (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Sakubva (Lindsey Wilson)), Brad Stisser (Highlands Ranch, Colo/Highlands Ranch), Bobby Zimmer (Sugarlands, Texas/Clements), and two from Furman (David Prentice, Jon Leathers) and Northeastern (Andrew Konopelsky, Daryl Brack).
Coastals mens soccer team next takes the pitch on Friday, Sept. 9 as it travels to Greenville, S.C. to participate in the Furman/Diadora Invitational and take on Ohio State at 5 p.m.
