CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina mens soccer team played host to three teams in the Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational on Friday Sept. 1. The Chanticleers shutout the Falcons from Bowling Green University with a score of 2-0.
"We are very pleased to have three quality teams here for this tournament," head coach Shaun Docking said. "We were excited to be able to play the games tonight considering the weather yesterday. This should be a great weekend with some very quality soccer for the fans to watch."
Junior Mkheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson) scored the first of his two goals in the 34th minute of the game after taking the assist from fellow junior Lachlan Cahill (Kiama, Australia/Kiama).
In goal for the Chants was once again senior Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) who recorded two saves in the shutout.
The final goal of the contest came in the 87th minute when Mkheli Dube took an assist from senior Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthrope (Lander University) and got the ball past Falcon goalkeeper Paul Shoemaker for the score.
"I thought that our guys played a good game tonight against a great Bowling Green team," Docking said. "Our defense and and goalkeeper Jeremy Wolfgang played extremely well, I am very pleased with our effort tonight and I am excited to get back on the field on Sunday (Sept. 3)."
Earlier in the evening the Richmond Spiders defeated Furman with a score of 2-1.
The Coastal Carolina/adidas Invitational will resume on Sunday Sept.3 at 12:30 p.m. when Furman will take on Bowling Green and the Chanticleers will follow at 3 p.m. when they take on Richmond.
