RICHMOND,Va. -- CCU junior forward Joseph Ngwenya (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Mxilikazi H.S.) scored a goal and recorded an assist to help the CCU Men's soccer upset #23-ranked Syracuse, 3-1, in the final day of the 2002 VCU NIKE/ALLTEL Classic in Richmond.
CCU's second goal scored, that came at the 49:03 mark of the second half, was an Own Goal scored off a Syracuse defender.
Freshman forward John DeVae (Elmhurst, Ill./York H.S.) would score the only other goal by a CCU player off assists from Randall Owen and Ngwenya.
Ngwenya and DeVae, who each record two goals for the weekend, along with defenders Dario Grassini and Chris Moore were named to the All-Tournament team.
CCU(1-0-1) will next face Indiana-Purdue- Fort Wayne in the first day of the CCU/Addias Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Mercer and Charleston Southern will open up the invitational at 4:30 at CCU Soccer Stadium.
