CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior striker Ashton Bennett continues to receive accolades for his two-goal, one-assist performance in Coastal Carolina's season-opening 4-nil win over Longwood, with the latest being Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week plaudits.

On Monday, Bennett was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the Big South Player of the Week for his five-point performance.

Bennett, a senior from Clarendon, Jamaica, posted two second half goals and a first half assist to lead the Chanticleers in their win over league foe Longwood on Aug. 24. He got the scoring started as he assisted on Justin Portillo's goal in the 28th minute. Bennett's first goal of the contest came in the 73rd minute as he collected a through ball from newcomer Mikey Lightbourne and found the back of the net. He closed out his night with a score from 12 yards out after a double assist by Shawn McLaws and Robby Joe Daniels in the 85th minute. Of Bennett's seven shots during the game, four came on frame for an impressive 57.1 shots on goal percentage. A consensus Preseason All-American, the honor marks his first Big South Player of the Week nod this season.

Bennett, who was named the conference's Preseason Attacking Player of the Year by the league's head coaches, earned a trio of Big South Attacking Player of the Week Awards last season.

The Chanticleers return to the pitch on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. against Ohio State in the Buckeye-hosted Wolstein Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Coastal defeated the then 21st ranked Buckeyes 2-0 in last season's CCU Tournament. The squad wraps up their time in Columbus on Sunday against Wright State on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2:30 p.m.
