CONWAY - Coastal Carolina's Ashton Bennett was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending Aug. 26. In addition, the Clarendon, Jamaica, native has also been named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Big South Player of the Week, the publications announced on Monday.

Bennett, who led the nation in goals (23) and points (53) in 2011, picked up where he left off last season as he scored two of the Chanticleers' four goals in the team's 4-nil season-opening victory over Longwood. In addition, the 2012 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List member assisted on the first goal of the game, a blast off the foot of junior Justin Portillo. All told, the senior striker played a role in each goal scored by the Chants in the contest (a Longwood own goal counted for the remaining goal) totaling five points in 66 minutes of action.

Coastal faces off against arguably its toughest opponent of the regular season tonight (Monday, Aug. 27) at No. 3 UNC Charlotte. The Chants, who own a 4-2-1 all-time series lead, fell to the eventual national runner-up 2-1 in last season's opening bout. Kick off from the 49ers Transamerica Field is set for 7 p.m.
