Aug. 22, 2017

New Orleans - Coastal Carolina University senior Frantzdy Pierrot leads a group of five Coastal Carolina soccer players on the 2017 Men’s Soccer Preseason All-Sun Belt team, released by the Sun Belt Conference.

Pierrot, a 2016 First-Team All-Sun Belt honoree, was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in a vote of the conference’s head coaches.

Pierrot, a 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List nominee, was one of the top players in the Sun Belt last season. He led the SBC in shots (61); shots per game (3.21); and game-winning goals (5). He scored 21 points on eight goals and five assists to lead the Chants.

Joining Pierrot on the preseason announcement are teammates Martin Melchor along the midfield while Miguel Gutierrez and Henrik Mueller are listed as a defenders and Braulio Linares-Ortiz is the goalkeeper.

Melchor and Linares-Ortiz were both second team All-Sun Belt picks in 2016 and Mueller was named to the 2016 All-Sun Belt Tournament Team.

Gutierrez has started every match for the Chants since he arrived on campus and was one of the big reasons why CCU was the top defensive team, not only in the Sun Belt last season, but the nation. As a defender, Gutierrez was one of the leaders on the CCU defense which only allowed 18 goals all season and had eight shutouts to lead the conference.
