CONWAY, S.C. The Coastal Carolina University men's soccer team knocked off No. 2 Duke University, 2-1, in exhibition action here Sunday night at the CCU Soccer Field. Sophomore Oron Levy (Yessod-Hamalla, Israel/Hemak-Haula) and freshman Kelly Porter (Wichita, Kan./Trinity Academy) netted goals for the Chanticleers.
Both squads posted goals in the first three minutes of action. The Blue Devils got on the board first with a Paul Dudley goal off a Spencer Wadsworth corner kick 2:35 into the contest. The Chants answered back with a goal of their own in less then a minute. At the 3:29 mark, Levy nailed an unassisted goal off a deflection.
The exhibition match-up remained knotted until Porters goal in the box off a cross pass from senior Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla/St. John's County (Queen's University of Charlotte)) in the 58th minute.
Redshirt sophomore Benjamin Compton (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) started the first half of the contest, recording one save. Redshirt freshman Phillip Latham (Annandale, Va./Falls Church) registered a scoreless second half with five saves.
"I was pleased with the way we fought today." Head Coach Shaun Docking said. "It was a good test for both teams. It gives both of us a measure as to where were at right now one week into the season."
Coastal continues exhibition action Sunday, Aug. 26 at Elon University. Game time is set for 4 p.m., at Rudd Field in Elon, N.C.
