Chants Fall at UNC in Exhibition Match

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 3-1 loss at fourth-ranked North Carolina in the opening exhibition match of the season.

Brennan Koslow opened the scoring on an assist from Darius Strambler in the 22nd minute to give the Chanticleers a 1-0 lead.

UNC was able to even the score at one less than one minute later and the score was even at one at halftime.

The Tar Heels went on to score twice in the second half to win the match 3-1. Alex Rose scored two goals for UNC with Jelani Pieters adding the third.

UNC outshot the Chants 17-9 and held a 7-3 lead in shots on goal.

CCU goalkeeper Braulio Linares-Ortiz played the first half and only allowed one goal and had four saves. Martin Melchor, Louis Dargent and newcomer Carlos Becerra each had two shots to lead the CCU offense.

The men will continue their exhibition season when they travel across the state to Clemson to face the fifth-ranked Tigers. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.
