CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team, ranked No. 17 in College Soccer News' Preseason Top 40 poll, officially kicked off preseason camp with its first training session Monday morning.
The Chanticleers, who are coming off a 20-3-2 season that featured a Big South regular season championship and NCAA Tournament Round of 32 appearance, spent their first practice of the 2013 preseason playing full field 11v11 for two 20 minute periods. Following a break for lunch and team meetings, the full 28-man roster then went through its conditioning test -- a four-lap, five-mile run around Coastal Carolina's campus -- affectionately referred to as `The Bear' by both players past and present.
The Chanticleers' preseason will build up to a pair of exhibition matches, starting next Wednesday (Aug. 21) when the team travels north to face Old Dominion. The Chants will host in-state rival Clemson at the CCU Soccer Field in its final tune-up match on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. The exhibition event, like all of the Chants regular season matches, will be free of charge.
The Chanticleers open the 2013 regular season campaign with the Carolina Nike Classic, playing at No. 18 Wake Forest (Aug. 30) before playing at No. 5 North Carolina (Sept. 1). Coastal opens in front of the home fans against No. 24 Charlotte on Sept. 6.
