CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University men's soccer head coach Shaun Docking announced his squad's 2013 schedule Wednesday. The Chanticleers will take on five NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago after reaching the NCAA Round of 16 for the second time in program history.
Coastal plays a pair exhibition matches before the regular season kicks off Aug. 30. The Chanticleers take to the road for their first exhibition match Wednesday, Aug. 21 against Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. before returning to Conway for an exhibition against in-state rival Clemson on Sunday, Aug. 25.
The 2013 regular season will open with the Chanticleers heading to North Carolina to play in the Carolina Nike Classic. The Chants are slated to play at Wake Forest on Friday, Aug. 30 before traveling over to Chapel Hill to take on the Tar Heels on Sunday, Sept. 1. Coastal defeated Wake Forest in the Second Round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament and was eliminated by North Carolina in the Second Round of the 2011 NCAA tournament.
Coastal opens in front of the home fans at the CCU Soccer Field, where the team is 70-19-6 all-time, on Friday, Sept. 6 as hosts to 2011 College Cup finalist Charlotte before hosting in-state rival South Carolina on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Chants then return to the road for a game at UNC Greensboro (Sept. 14).
Coastal begins its Big South regular season title defense at Presbyterian College on Sept. 17. The Chants follow their trip to Clinton with a trek to Richmond, Va., to square off with VCU (Sept. 21).
A one-game homestand awaits the Chanticleers as Gardner-Webb comes to the CCU Soccer Field on Sept. 28 before the team returns to the road for contests at High Point (Oct. 5) and College of Charleston (Oct. 8).
Three of the next four matches for the Chanticleers will be played in Conway as VMI (Oct. 11), Radford (Oct. 20) and Liberty (Oct. 25) come to Conway with a trip to Winthrop (Oct. 12) splitting the four home matches.
A mid-week trip to Southern Conference member Elon on Oct. 29 precedes Coastal's final three matches of the season. The Chants travel to UNC Asheville (Nov. 2) then hosting Campbell (Nov. 6). Coastal closes its regular season at Longwood on Nov. 9.
The Big South Championship will begin Nov. 12 on campus sites before the semifinals and finals take place at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
The NCAA Tournament starts on Nov. 21 with the first four rounds hosted at campus sites. The College Cup will take place December 13 & 15 in Philadelphia, Pa. and will be hosted at PPL Park home of the Philadelphia Union.
