Men's Soccer Welcomes Four Newcomers For Spring Semester

The newcomers are currently enrolled at Coastal Carolina and have joined the team for offseason workouts

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University head men's soccer coach Shaun Docking announced the addition of four student-athletes for the spring semester Tuesday. Collegiate transfers Gavin Craig, Bryce Follensbee, Ollivier Gueguen and Jordan Tyler are currently enrolled at Coastal Carolina and have joined the team for offseason workouts.

Craig, who will begin his sophomore year this fall, attended Columbus State Community College during the fall 2013 semester. Prior to Columbus State, Craig attended Jacksonville University as a freshman. The forward appeared in 18 games for the Dolphins with one start in 2012. He finished his freshman campaign with one goal on 11 shot attempts, while adding an assist for three total points.

Follensbee comes to Conway from the University of Tulsa where he spent two seasons, helping the Golden Hurricane to a Conference USA tournament championship in 2012 and tournament title game appearance in 2013. The forward earned C-USA All-Freshman Team honors in 2012 after ranking second on the team with nine goals and 21 points. Furthermore, he was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top-100 Freshman List and finished the season ranked at No. 38. He scored three goals and added an assist for seven total points as a sophomore in 2013. Follensbee started 13 of 41 matches and attempted 78 total shots during his time at Tulsa.

Hailing from Dr. Phillips High School, the Orlando, Fla., native scored 73 goals and picked up 26 assists for 172 points during his interscholastic career. He was twice selected as the Orlando Sentinel Player of the Week for his work on the pitch. In addition, Follensbee was invited to the United States’ U-18 National Team camp in 2009.

Gueguen, a native of Brest, France, joins the Chanticleers from Lander University. Gueguen, who begins his senior campaign in the fall, helped the Bearcats to a 12-5-2 overall record and an NCAA Division II Sweet 16 appearance in 2013. He recorded one goal and one assist from his backline position. Gueguen helped the Lander defense to nine shutouts and a 0.97 goals against average.

Tyler, who will also be a senior this fall, comes to Coastal with NCAA Tournament experience after leading Penn State to the Sweet 16 last season. He earned first team All-Big Ten honors in 2013 as he led the Nittany Lions to a 13-6-2 overall record and a Big Ten regular season championship. The forward led Penn State with five goals and dished out an assist to finish the 2013 campaign with 11 points. He scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 2-1 double overtime win over Northwestern to clinch Penn State’s Big Ten regular season title.

In all, Tyler scored 12 goals and recorded six assists in 65 matches for the Nittany Lions. He was also an honorable mention selection to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie Team in 2010 after finishing the season with five goals and helping Penn State to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tyler, a native of Rochester, Mich., was ranked as the No. 7 collegiate prospect in the Great Lakes region and 49th nationally, according to TopDrawerSoccer.com. As a senior at Stoney Creek High School, he was selected by the Michigan High School Soccer Association to the state Dream Team and to the All-State first team. Furthermore, he was invited to the United States’ U-17 National Team camp in 2008.

Docking led Coastal to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance in 2013. The Chanticleers closed the season with a 19-5-0 overall record and captured both the Big South regular season and tournament championships.

Coastal finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Chanticleers ranked second in the NCAA with 47 goals and third in both assists (44) and total points (138). Defensively, Coastal ranked 11th in the nation with an even .500 shutout percentage and 34th with a 0.83 goals against average.
