CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will play five professional clubs as part of its spring 2013 schedule, announced Wednesday by veteran head coach Shaun Docking.

"We are very excited to play a five-match spring schedule against professional opponents, including MLS and USL-Pro teams," said Docking. "This will continue to prepare our program and players to play at the next level and gauge their abilities with professional players and teams across the country.

"Many of our student-athletes come to our program because they want to play professional soccer after their time here at Coastal Carolina. We, as a staff, feel a spring schedule such as this helps prepare our guys for that challenge more than most other college programs across the country."

The Chanticleers, who are coming off a 20-3-2 record, a second consecutive Big South regular season championship and NCAA Tournament Round of 16 appearance, open their spring training schedule on Feb. 10. Seven days later the squad laces up its boots against Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire in Charleston, S.C.

Coastal will then play a home-and-home series with the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League's Pro Division. The Chants travel to Charleston to take the Battery at Blackbaud Stadium on March 7 with the Battery returning the match in Conway on March 26. The Carolina RailHawks come to the CCU Soccer Field on March 28. The RailHawks were the fourth seed in the North American Soccer League's playoffs last season after posting 40 points with a 10-8-10 record. The Chants round out their spring slate with a home match against USL Pro Division member Wilmington Hammerheads on April 3.

The Chanticleer men's and women's soccer programs will conclude the spring season with the annual alumni weekend on Saturday, April 14.
