CONWAY - Coastal Carolina left back Henrik Robstad has elected to forego his remaining collegiate eligibility to pursue a career in professional soccer and has been invited to Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes' preseason training camp.
Robstad, a native of Kristiansand, Norway, spent the past two seasons in a Coastal Carolina uniform where he helped the Chanticleers to 38-7-2 record, two Big South regular season championships and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. The Chants' 38 victories during Robstad's time in Conway tie Creighton for the most wins in the NCAA during that span.
Known for his exceptional left foot and service from the left flank, Robstad earned All-Big South Freshman Team honors in 2011 along with second team All-Big South honors in 2012, adding All-Academic team plaudits this past fall. In addition, he was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week on Oct. 22, 2012.
Robstad wrapped up his Chanticleer career starting 46 of 47 games played, while tallying three goals and eight assists. On the defensive end, he helped Coastal post 19 total shutouts and rank in the NCAA top 25 for goals against average each season.
Former Chanticleer forward Ashton Bennett has reported to Toronto FC's preseason training camp. Bennett was selected 20th overall by the Reds in the MLS Supplemental Draft on Tuesday.
