VANCOUVER, BC –  Former Coastal Carolina forward Joe Anderson was selected 19th overall by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second round of the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft Tuesday afternoon.

In his two seasons at Coastal Carolina, Anderson drew starts in 24 of the 38 games in which he appeared.  He scored 10 career goals and had one assists for a total of 21 points.

Anderson scored five goals in 2010 and helped the Chants reach the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in school history.  The Brampton, Ontario, native scored the game-winning goal against Winthrop earlier this year to lift Coastal to a 2-1 win over the rival Eagles.

He saved his best performance for the Big South Tournament championship game when he scored all three goals to give Coastal a 3-1 win over top-seed and tournament host High Point.  For his efforts, Anderson was named to the All-Big South Tournament team.

“We are really excited for Joe to have this opportunity to showcase his talents with Vancouver,” Coastal Carolina head coach Shaun Docking said.  “I know Joe is very excited to get this opportunity with an MLS club and fulfill a lifelong dream of his.  Joe understands that this is now the first step and that this is only an opportunity that Vancouver is giving him.  Now the hard work begins in trying to earn a contract.”
