CONWAY - Frandzty Pierrott scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute to lead the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over upset minded Howard. The win puts the Chanticleers in Sun Belt men's soccer championship for the second consecutive year.
Coastal improved to 11-6-1 on the season while Howard's season ends at 2-15-3.
Romario Piggott got the Chanticleers on the scoreboard first in the seventh minute when he took a pass from Alex Ierides and banged in a shot from short range to give the Chants the early lead and momentum.
The score stayed that way until the 51st minute as the Bison were able to even the score at one. Andres Gomez was able to dribble his way past two CCU defenders and found the right side of the net past a diving Braulio Linares-Ortiz to even the score at one.
Both teams battled back-and-forth over the next 30 minutes until Pierrot and Darius Strambler teamed up for the match winner as Strambler lofted a ball from the right side into Pierrot who finished the assist with the match-winner.
The Chanticleers outshot the Bison 15-to-8 overall and 3-to-1 on corner kicks for the match.
