COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team closed out the regular season with a 5-0 loss at No. 2 Maryland Friday night from Ludwig Field.
Maryland (14-2-1) scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute when defender Billy Cortes scored on a shot from 25 yards out. The Terps struck two minutes later on a long goal from Matt Kassel on a shot from approximately 45 yards out.
The Terrapins added three more goals in the second half on shots from Paul Torres, Kaoru Forbess and Helge Leikvang.
Coastal (9-7-2) finished the game with five shots on goal. Both Joe Anderson and Pedro Ribeiro had a team-high two shots on goal.
Maryland keeper Zac MacMath earned the win after finishing with five saves, while Coastal goalie Scott Angevine suffered the loss despite making two saves.
Coastal returns to action Thursday when the Chanticleers travel to High Point, N.C., to take part in the Big South Conference Tournament. The Chanticleers will play as the No. 2 seed and will face seventh-seeded VMI at 2:30 p.m.
