CCU Defeats Howard in OT
It was a match that saw the Chanticleers out shoot the Bison 16-11 and 12-6 in shots on goal, but Piggott's goal was the only goal that was scored by the team that was supposed to score.
The first two goals of the match came in own goal fashion. The first gave the Chants a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Miguel Gutierrez took a free kick which Howard, trying to kick out from the goal, actually knocked the ball into the net to give CCU a 1-0 lead.
The Chants defense was strong the whole match, but returned the favor just seconds before the end of the match when CCU's defense accidently knocked the ball into the net to give Howard an own goal of its own and send the match into the extra period.
The overtime period saw Yazeed Matthews have a strong assist on Piggott's goal just a little over two minutes into the extra period.
With the win, CCU moves to 9-6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The Chants will end the regular season with an opportunity to earn the outright regular season crown when they travel to Georgia State Saturday, Nov. 4 for a 7 p.m. start.
Georgia State stands 3-0-1 in conference action, so the winner of the match will be the regular season champ and will gain the top seed in next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament which CCU will host.
