Late Goal Sends CCU Past Hartwick
Conway - Romario Piggott's goal with 1:50 left in the match gave Coastal Carolina a 1-0 win over Hartwick, and in the process gave CCU a Sun Belt Conference victory.
The Chanticleers (5-6-0/1-1-0 SBC) dominated the match out shooting the Hartwick (5-6-1/0-1-0 SBC) 14-4 and six-to-four in shots on goal. It rained for most of the match making the conditions tough on both teams.
As the match wore on, the field became wet and muddy making it hard to control passes without the ball skipping on the wet turf.
CCU had plenty of chances to score in the game, but missed several shots on an open goal and had two offsides calls that hurt another two scoring chances.
The match looked to be heading into overtime before Carlos Becerra was able to touch a pass from the right side of the net to the streaking Piggot for the match-winner.
Braulio Linares-Ortiz played all 90 minutes in the goal picking up his third shutout of the season. He finished the match with four saves.
Scrambler, along with Martin Melchor and Becerra led the Chants attack with two shots each and the trio contributed for four of the team's shots on goal.
The Chants will be back on the road for its next two matches beginning with a trip to Old Dominion slated for October 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
