RICHMOND, Va. - Trailing 1-0 with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation, Coastal Carolina scored back-to-back goals in less than three minutes to take a 2-1 win over the Elon Phoenix at the Richmond Marriott Classic Friday night.

The first win of the year moves the Chants to 1-1-0 on the year while the Phoenix drop to 0-1-1 this season as Coastal improves to 6-1-1 overall against Elon.

After falling behind in the 78th minute on a goal by Archie Karpeh, Coastal forward Ashton Bennett gathered the ball at the right side of the'18 and pounded it in the top left corner of the net tying the game one apiece in the 82nd minute.

Two minutes later sophomore Justin Portillo scored the game-winning goal on a similar shot that reached the back of the net giving Coastal their first win of the season.

Senior goalie Scott Angevine saved four shots while Elon held the shot advantage, 14-11.

Coastal recorded only nine fouls to Elon's 14 while each team was booked for one yellow card.

The Chanticleers will play the Richmond Spiders on Sunday, September 4 at Noon.
