Men's Soccer Picks Up Win over UNCG
Conway - The men's soccer team at Coastal Carolina made their 2017 home debut a successful one with a 2-0 win over UNC Greensboro.
It didn't take long for the Chanticleers to get on the scoreboard as Martin Melchor scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick early in the third minute.
The scored stayed that way for 20 minutes when Frantzdy Pierrot scored on an assist from Melchor in the 25th minute in what turned out to be the last score of the match
Neither team scored in the second half, but both teams had plenty of chances. CCU had 11 shots with six on goal while the visitors countered with nine shots, four on goal.
Alex Bouillennec made his first start in goal for CCU and played the first 45 minutes and had one save. Braulio Linares-Ortiz played the second half and completed the Chants first shutout of the season with three saves.
The win was the first of the season for CCU running their record to 1-2 during early season action. UNCG falls to 0-2-1.
It doesn't get any easier for CCU as they will play host to 15th ranked Charlotte Tuesday, September 5 at 7 p.m. It is the second of a season-long three-match home stand for the Chants.
