CONWAY - After a scoreless first half, Clemson scored three goals in the initial 17 minutes of the second half and added a late goal to take a 4-0 win over No. 13 Coastal Carolina in an exhibition match on Sunday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Field.

"We played well in the first half," said Shaun Docking, the reigning Big South Coach of the Year. "We made changes to our lineup in the second half and tried guys out at different positions.

"Clemson is a very good team and they showed that this afternoon. By playing a pair of tough exhibition games this preseason, we have a good idea of where we are as a team entering the regular season next week."

After battling 0-0 for 58-plus minutes, Clemson's Iain Smith put the visitors on the board at the 58:42 mark of play. Just over a minute later Kyle Fisher scored for the Tigers on a set piece. Thomas McNamara added goals in the 63rd and 82nd minutes to tally the final 4-0 score.

Clemson outshot Coastal, 11-9 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal. Sophomore keeper Devin Cook and senior Federico Bertele each played in net for the Chants, combining for five saves.

Coastal's preseason work culminates with the regular-season opener at No. 17 Wake Forest on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. as part of the Carolina Nike Classic. The Chants will also play at No. 4 North Carolina on Sept. 1 (7 p.m.) in its final match of the Carolina Nike Classic.
