CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team played its first of two exhibition games of the season Sunday night when the Chanticleers battled to a 0-0 draw with No. 25 Charlotte from Transamerica Field.

“I thought tonight was a really good test against a very good team,” Coastal head coach Shaun Docking said.  “I am pleased with the result and it gives us a good idea of what we need to do as we move forward towards the opening game.”

The Coastal defense, which ranked second in the Big South in 2009 in goals against average, limited Charlotte to just five shots on goals.  Junior keeper Scott Angevine logged all 90 minutes and earned a shutout.

Sophomore Luis Faz paced the Chanticleer offense with three shots, as Coastal finished the contest with 10 shots and four on goal.

“It was a pretty even game and went back-and-forth in spells,” Docking said.  “We could have been down a goal or two in the first half, but I also thought we had a couple of excellent scoring chances in the second half we weren’t able to take advantage of.”

Coastal returns to action Friday night at 6 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on Campbell in the final exhibition game of the season.
