CCU and Marshall End in a Draw
Conway - Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team ended its exhibition season with a 1-1 draw with Marshall University.
Both teams scored in the first half as Pedro Dolabella got the Thundering Herd on the scoreboard first off an assist from Brayan Lopez-Mendez in the 23rd minute.
That scored held up until the 34th minute when Frantzdy Pierrot found the back of the net when he rebounded in his own missed shot to even the score at one, which would turn out to be the final score.
In the second half, both teams had several opportunities to score, but both goalkeepers made several saves. The best opportunity in the half was on the CCU side of the field when Martin Melchor pounded a shot past Marshall’s goalie, but Carlos Diaz-Salcedo came out of nowhere with the leg block before the ball could cross the goal line.
Marshall had 12 shots with six on goal, while CCU had nine shots, also with six on goal.
Braulio Linares-Ortiz played the first half in goal for CCU and had two saves, while Alex Bouillennec played the second half without allowing a goal and had three saves.
The Chants will open the regular season Aug. 25 at George Mason. The start time has been set for 1 p.m. CCU’s first home match of the regular season will be Sept. 1 when UNC Greensboro visits Conway. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
