2012 Men's Soccer vs Florida Atlantic (Sept. 7, 2012)
Jacob Downey enters his first season as a student assistant coach where he assists head coach Shaun Docking with every aspect of the program. Downey, a central midfielder for the Chanticleers from 2009-2011, helped Coastal to an impressive 39-14-9 overall, Big South regular season championships in 2009 and 2011, a Big South tournament title in 2010 and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances (2010-2011).
Downey's coaching career received an unfortunate start after suffering a career-ending injury in the 13th game of his senior season. Despite the disappointment of not being able to play, Downey transitioned to the role of a student coach and vocally led the team from the sidelines.
For his career, Downey appeared in 47 games, making 14 starts and recorded seven shots. His work in the midfield helped the Chants finish with the Big South's top defensive statistics in both 2010 and 2011.
Originally from College Station, Texas, Downey graduated from Coastal Carolina in December 2011 with a degree in accounting. He is currently pursuing a MBA in accounting.
