CONWAY - Coastal Carolina junior Ben Wheeler (South Croydon, England) is ranked 19th on the order of merit to represent Team Europe at the 2014 Palmer Cup - the premier yearly competition that showcases the best collegiate in a Ryder Cup-style format.

The top six golfers in the ranking from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Palmer Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England, June 26-28.

Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a negative bonus for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.

Wheeler is the second Chanticleer in as many years to be among the top 20 in contention for a spot in the prestigious event. Last year, Sebastian Soderberg (Sweden) ranked as high as 11th. In 2007, Coastal Carolina All-American Dustin Johnson helped Team USA win the 2007 Palmer Cup.

In four events this season, Wheeler has posted an impressive 71.67 scoring average, shooting two rounds in the 60's and having seven of his 12 rounds be par or better. He has three top 20 finishes, including a seventh-place finish at LSU's David Toms Collegiate. Wheeler has played in 26 career events with a 73.73 career scoring average, which is eighth on the CCU all-time list.
