Coastal Carolina Men's Golf Announces 2010 Fall Recruiting Class

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina Director of Golf Allen Terrell announced three golfers that will be a part of the 2011-12 Chanticleer men's golf team as freshmen, including Andrew Dorn, Easton Renwick and Ben Wheeler.

"Andrew, Easton and Ben have competed and won at the highest level our sport provides," Terrell said. "All three are coming to Coastal with the vision of competing for a national championship. These student-athletes are passionate about making a positive impact on our program. They are very focused and talented young men who will play right away. They have the talent to one day be considered one of our top recruiting classes."

Dorn (West Chester, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller HS) ranks fourth on the Ohio Junior Golf rankings. Highlights from 2010 for Dorn include placing third (of 74) at the AJGA Franklin (Tenn.) Junior Classic (75-68-68=211), tying for 11th (of 113) at the Bubba Conlee National (77-69-69=215), tying for 12th (of 108) at the AJGA Nemacolin Junior Classic (73-74-78=225) and placing 15th (of 75) at the AJGA Columbus Junior (71-73-71=215).

Dorn placed fifth at the 2010 Ohio Division I state championship and tied for second at the '09 State Championships, earning first team All-State honors in 2009 and `10, and he was also the two-time Greater Catholic League Player of the Year. Dorn led Moeller to a sixth-place finish at the 2010 state championship after the team was the first to win the Greater Catholic League championship, the city championship, the sectional championship and the district championship all in one season.

Dorn was a three-time winner on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour; shooting 72-70 at Waldon Ponds (Hamilton, Ohio) in March 2010, 67-72 at Cherry Blossom (Georgetown, Ky.) in March 2010 and 69-70 at Tee-Zel Bluegrass Junior (Lexington, Ky.) in November 2009.

Renwick (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Socastee HS) had two top-30 finishes on the AJGA in the summer of 2010. In April of 2010, he fired a final round 2-under par 70, matching his 70 in round one, to claim the boys overall championship at the 7th Annual Junior Golf Shootout at Myrtle Beach National.

Originally from Punxsutawney, Pa , Renwick was the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association Junior Player of the Year for the 2008 and 2009 seasons before moving to Myrtle Beach for his senior season. To earn the title in 2009, Renwick finished second in the Junior Championship, fifth in the Pennsylvania Junior Championship and qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur Championship.

Wheeler (South Croydon, England/Trinity HS) currently ranks 29th on the English Golf Union Boys Order of Merit, ranking 26th in 2009, and reached the match-play portion of the 2010 English Amateur. He is a two-time Surrey Under-18 Boys Golf Champion, firing 75-70 in 2010 and birdying the first playoff hole to secure his second straight title. Wheeler has also tied for 11th in the Pete McEvoy Trophy, finished eighth at the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters (73-69-74-70=286), tied for 13th in the South of England Boys Open Championship (70-75-77-71=293) and finished 11th at the County Junior Champions of Champions.

In addition to winning his first Surrey Under-18 title in 2009, Wheeler helped the Surrey team to the National County Championship and won the Downs Trophy, Purley Downs Club Championship and the Purley Downs Junior Open. He added an eighth-place finish at the 2009 Carris Trophy and 10th-place finish at the English Junior Champion of Champions. In 2008, Wheeler also won the Purley Downs Club and Junior titles while finishing third at the South of England Boys Open Championship, fifth at the Surrey Under 16s and 10th at the Surrey Under 18s.
