CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University men's golf program has signed Conner Pratt (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) to a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Allen Terrell announced today. Pratt will join the Chanticleers as a freshman for the 2010-11 academic year.
Pratt has led Spain Park to a pair of Alabama Class 6A State team titles during his time with the Jaguars. Currently ranked 17th nationally in the Class of 2010 by the AJGA Polo Rankings, Pratt is a two-time American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) champion, winning at the 2009 Southeast Junior Open, played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, and at the AJGA Junior at Steelwood. At the Southeast Junior, he posted a 54-hole total of 200, including a 62 and 68, for a commanding 10-shot victory over a talent-rich field. The 62 was just one shot off the AJGA record and the second-lowest round in the Association's history. Pratt earned Golfweek National Player of the Week and was featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" for his victory. In the 2009 AJGA Junior at Steelwood, Pratt took home the individual title by four strokes with a three-round score of 208. He had a pair of under-par rounds with a 68 and 67 in the event.
"Conner has clearly shown he has the tools to play at the highest level," Terrell commented. "We feel he is a player who will make an immediate positive impact on our program. He represents everything we look for in a player. He's a solid student, comes from an excellent family, is committed to being an elite player and has a strong desire to be at Coastal Carolina. We are extremely excited about his future at Coastal and beyond."
The Chanticleers have completed their fall schedule and will next be on the course Sat.-Sun., Feb. 13-14, 2010 at the Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Club in Gainesville, Fla.
