SAN MARTIN, CALIF. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team placed seventh at the 2007 CordeValle Collegiate, Nov. 5-7. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was contested at the CordeValle Golf Club (Par 72 - 7,119 yards) in San Martin, Calif.
In the unique format of the event of play six and count the five best, the Chanticleers struggled in the second round at 377, but rebounded to shoot 364 in the final round and finish at 17-over 1097. Host UCLA won the event with a total of 12-under 1068, while Stanford was in second at 1079.
Sophomore Sam Lyons led the Chanticleer effort with his first top-10 collegiate finish, tying for seventh at 3-under 213. Senior Zack Byrd tied for 16th at 1-over 217, while sophomore Dan Obremski was next for CCU, tying for 25th at 219. There was a three-way tie for the individual title. UCLA’s James Lee, the leader after the first two rounds, went three-over in his last three holes to fall to -5. Shiwan Kim of Stanford completed a hard fought comeback after shooting two-over in his first round. Kim’s final round of 69 left him tied for first at five-under. Hendrick Norlander of Augusta State was the final champion of the tournament at five-under after his final round 71.
By virtue of finishing as a Honorable Mention All-American last year, senior Lindsay Renolds will play in the Western Refining All-American Classic , Nov. 17-19. The remainder of the team have wrapped up its 2007 fall slate and will return to the course, Feb. 9-10, at the 2008 Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
