SAN MARTIN, CALIF. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team posted a solid six-under in the opening round and sit in second at the CordeValle Collegiate, Nov. 5. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at CordeValle (Par 72 - 7,119 yards) in San Martin, Calif.
In the unique format of the event of play six and count the five best, the Chanticleers posted a 6-under 354 in the first 18 and trail leader UCLA by one shot. Texas A&M is in third at even par, while Stanford and Southern Cal are at 3-over.
Sophomore Sam Lyons led three Coastal golfers under par, firing a 4-under 68 for a tie for second, three shots behind opening round leader James Lee of UCLA at 65. Sophomore Dan Obremski and senior Lindsay Renolds each posted a 2-under 70, tying them for seventh currently, while senior Zack Byrd and junior Cameron Hooper each had a 1-over 73, putting them in a tie for 25th. Freshman David Dannelly rounded out CCU's effort with a 4-over 76, good for a tie for 48th.
The second round will tee off at 8 a.m. PST, Tue., Nov. 6, with the final 18 to be played Wed., Nov. 7.
