Men's Golf Struggles, Falls to Eighth After Two Rounds of CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, CALIF. -- In the unique play-six, count-five event, the Coastal Carolina University men's golf team struggled in the second round and shot a 23-over 383 to fall two spots to eighth after the second round of the CordeValle Collegiate, Nov. 4. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Santa Clara University, is being played at the CordeValle Country Club (Par 72 - 7,119 yards) in San Martin, Calif.

The No. 40 Chanticleers again struggled on the front side and couldn't recover on the back side, going 14-over among the counting scores on the front nine, but could only go 9-over on the back (as compared to even par in the first round) to post a 383 on the second 18 and sit at 756 in eighth. No. 4 Southern California holds a 19-shot lead at leads at 1-under 719, with No. 11 Stanford at 738 in second and No. 23 Washington one more shot back in third at 739. Just 12 shots separate fourth (Charlotte and Arkansas - 746) and ninth (Northwestern - 758).

Junior Dan Obremski is tied for seventh after his second straight even-par round to post a 144 through 36 holes. Redshirt senior Zack Byrd struggled in the second round with a 79 but is still tied for 20th at 5-over 149, with senior Cameron Hooper tied for 29th at 7-over 151. The Coastal Carolina scoring was rounded out by sophomore David Dannelly and junior Sam Lyons tied for 61st at 13-over 157, with sophomore Tripp McAllister tied for 71st at 20-over 164.

The final round will be played Wednesday, Nov. 5, with the Chants going off No. 10 starting at 8:36 PST, playing with No. 27 Lamar.
