CONWAY - After shooting a career-low 209 over 54 holes, Coastal Carolina junior Andrew Dorn was named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced today.
Dorn (West Chester, Ohio) placed sixth at ETSU's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate versus a field that featured six teams ranked among the nation's top 50. He recorded scores of 71-69-69 with his 7-under par total of 209 being his career-best by eight strokes.
Over his final two rounds, Dorn turned in nearly identical scorecards. In the second round, Dorn had just one bogey, taking a six on the par-5 8th hole. He started the back nine with birdies on holes 110 and 12 before finishing the round with birdies on holes 17 and 18. In the final round, also had only one bogey, again taking a six on the par-5 8th hole, with birdies on holes 2, 4, 10 and 14 for his second consecutive 69. His 12 birdies and 37 pars over three rounds were both among the field's top 10.
Dorn, who had an excellent summer by winning the North & South Amateur and the Ohio Amateur, has continued his strong play this fall by posting scores of par or better in six of his nine rounds played to date.
Coastal Carolina will return to action Nov. 4-5 for its final fall tournament, playing in UCLA's annual Gifford Collegiate Golf Championship.
