Men's Golf Ties for Fifth at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges

JONESBOROUGH, TENN. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot three rounds of par or better and finished in a tie for fifth at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges, Oct. 12-14. The three-day, 54-hole event hosted by East Tennessee State was played at The Ridges Golf and Country Club (Par 72 - 7147 yards) in Jonesborough, Tenn.

After an opening round even-par 288, Coastal shot 283 and sat at 5-under 571 after 36 holes. The Chanticleers closed out the tournament with a 1-under 287, good for a three-round total of 6-under 858 to tie with Tennessee and finish ahead of four teams ranked in Golfstat's Top 15. With tournament tiebreaker rules that called for a squad’s fifth score to determine a team championship in case of a tie, Virginia Tech posted no score over a 73 and that was enough to break the Hokies’ deadlock with North Carolina at the top of the leaderboard, both finishing at 852. The host Bucs were third at 854, with Kent State fourth at 856.

Coastal was led by freshman David Dannelly, playing his first collegiate event. Dannelly put together a three-round total of 5-under 211, shooting under par in each of his three rounds (71-69-71). Senior All-American Lindsay Renolds also had a top-20 finish, tying for 18th at 2-under 214, while sophomore Dan Obremski tied for 25th at even-papr 216. Tennessee’s Chris Paisley – powered by a record setting second round of 8-under 64 Saturday – captured the individual championship at 10-under 206 by two strokes over Maryland’s Chris Gold and Kent State’s John Hahn.

 The Chants return to the course Sun.-Tue., Oct. 28-30 in the Callaway Match Play at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
