DURHAM, N.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's golf team put together a solid pair of rounds and is tied for the lead after 36 holes of the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic, Oct. 9. The tournament, hosted by Duke University, is being played on the Duke University Golf Course (Par 72 - 7,045 yards) in Durham, N.C.
The Chanticleers started on the right foot, shooting eight-under 280 in the opening round to take a three-shot lead over host Duke. The Blue Devils fought back in the afternoon, firing a 279, while Coastal posted 282 in the afternoon to be tied at 14-under 562 through two rounds. Minnesota is in third at 568, while Charlotte is in fourth at 571.
Coastal is led by junior Dustin Johnson, who fired a pair of five-under 67s in the first two rounds to post 10-under 134 through 36 holes. Johnson leads Michigan State's Ryan Brehm by two shots. Junior Moises Cobo is tied for 15th at two-under 142, while sophomore Joachim Fourquet is tied for 18th at 143.
The defending Big South Conference champion Chanticleers will tee off in the final round Oct. 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. Coastal will be paired with Duke and Minnesota in the final groups.
